Neelakkurinji flowers again

T.K. Rajan Memorial Inter School Greens Quiz 2009 became an event in the city with a participation of 83 teams from thirteen leading schools in the district. The big hall of Christ Nagar, Vellayambalam, was filled with participants, their parents and Greens members.

Anand P.V. (8th standard) and Anand Justin (10th standard) of St. Mary’s HSS, Pattom got first place by securing 70 points. The teams of Aryan P. Nair and Arya P.B. (both in 10th standard) of L.V.H.S., Pothencode and Surya Girish (8th standard) and Aravind A.J. (9th standard) of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vazhuthacaud shared second place by securing 57.5 points. Devika A. Nair and Ambika M.S. (both in 9th standard) of GGHSS Cottonhill, Vazhuthacaud reached third with 47.5 points.

Other teams which got selection for the final quiz are M. Kavin Das (10th) and Ajay Dev B.G. (10th) of St. Mary’s HSS, Pattom (secured 40 points); Bharath Nandan S.(9th) and Abhijith U. (9th) of St. Mary’s Central School, Poojappura (secured 25 points); Neeraj R. (8th) and Aravind M.R. (8th) of K.V. Pattom, 2nd Shift (secured 20 points) and Arjun Shyam (8th) and Vivek S.(8th) of Loyola School, Sreekaryam (secured 10 points).

Arya Central School, Pattom had the highest participation with 16 teams which was followed by Loyola School, Sreekaryam and Govt. Girls’ HSS, Cottonhill with 11 teams each. St. Thomas Residential School, Mukkolakkal had 10 teams. Other schools participated in the event are: St. Mary’s HSS, Pattom (9), Carmel Girls’ HSS, Vazhuthacaud (5), Darsana HSS, Nedumangad (4 ), Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom (4), Holy Angels’ Convent HSS (3), LVHS, Pothencode (3), Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vazhuthacaud (2) and Nirmala Bhavan, Kuravankonam (1). The host school, Christ Nagar Sr. Secondary School, Vellayambalam had two teams to represent.
Greens Executive Committee Member C. Susheelkumar led the quiz which had visual rounds, plant identification and bird voice identification. Thomas Mash of Christ Nagar, Vellayambalam, extended all supports from the part of the School Management.

World Environmental Day Activities



Greens celebrated this year's environmental day with Museum & Zoo Department and Forest Department. In the morning painting competitions were conducted at the Museum Radio Park for LP, UP and High School students. At 3 pm, Education Minister, Mr. M.A. Baby and Forest Minister, Mr. Binoy Viswom, inaugurated the 'Haritha Keralalm' (Green Kerala) programme by planting tree saplings at museum ground. Mayor, Mr. Jayan Babu, was also present. Students from Cotton Hill School, Vazhuthacaud and members of Greens participated.

Subsequent to this, 1000 tree saplings of various kinds were issued to the Secretariat employees. The inauguration of this was done by Forest Minister at the Secretariat Campus by giving a sandalwood sapling to the daughter of Greens member Mrs. Sheela.
